Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012), was a Catalan artist known for his mixed-media practice incorporating tangible materials, who became the best known Spanish born artist after World War II. He was one of the first to create serious art by using mixed media, and created his most original works of art, which was called ‘matter painting’.
