Imaging Beyond points to a mode of artistic practice that moves beyond established media and conventional ways of seeing. Rather than treating images, objects, or forms as flat representations, the artists explore their extensions into spatial, perceptual, and psychological dimensions. Bringing together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, the exhibition presents works in painting, photography, and ceramics, demonstrating how contemporary art continues to expand ways of seeing beyond the limits of medium, through narrative, time, and imagination.

Taiwanese artist based in the United States artist Daniel Lee presents Beach, his latest 2026 series created with AI. Set in the aftermath of the final world war, the work envisions a planet where most life forms — including humanity — have nearly vanished. Almost a century later, a small number of species emerging from the deep sea and the upper skies reappear along the shoreline, becoming the new inhabitants of this world.

Through fictional yet prophetic imagery, Daniel Lee depicts the desolate landscapes left behind after the collapse of civilization, as well as the strange new order formed by the rise of these unfamiliar species. Moving between technology and apocalyptic imagination, Beach functions not only as an allegory of a future world, but also as a reflection of humanity’s deeper anxieties and imaginings about its own fate.

The works of Argentine artist Luciano Polverigiani are rich in narrative and vitality. Drawing on traditional South American ceramic techniques, he creates striking, life-like species that seem to breathe with energy. Situated between reality and fantasy, his works invite viewers into a world shaped by perception, memory, and imagination. Brazilian artist Diego Rosendo has created a new body of work specifically for this exhibition, depicting wild and mysterious exotic plants. Rooted in the historical and emotional legacy of ceramic culture and referencing regional traditions from Pernambuco, his works also incorporate reflections on contemporary conditions and future possibilities, revealing layered cultural perspectives and a sense of temporal flow. Norwegian artist Bjørn Lie constructs strange and metaphorical still-life scenes through painting, where nature, myth, and fantasy intersect. His ongoing Glorious Flowers series embraces uncertainty in the creative process—behind the refined surfaces lies an openness to unpredictability, chance, and the pursuit of “happy accidents.”

Danish ceramic artist Charlotte Nielsen has devoted over two decades to her practice. Inspired by observations of iron structures, rust, and organic matter, she employs dark tones and coarse textures to evoke the passage of time and material transformation. Through raku-fired ceramics that merge mechanical and organic elements, her works articulate a tension between form and concept. American artist Rebecca Bird creates works that are quiet yet subtly unsettling. Using the language of traditional painting, she situates the present within broader historical and cultural contexts. By depicting intimate everyday scenes, Bird explores subjectivity and the complex relationships between the self, humanity, and nature. For her, the studio functions like a lens, focusing extensive research and lived experience into a single, precise image.

Lifang (1933–2020) was one of the few Taiwanese women artists to live and work extensively in Europe. A graduate of the National Taiwan Normal University’s Department of Fine Arts, she studied under Li Shiqiao and, in 1956, co-founded the Fifth Moon Group with Liu Kuo-Sung and others, playing a pivotal role in the development of postwar avant-garde art in Taiwan. In 2023, her work was included in the Whitechapel Gallery’s spring exhibition Women Artists and Global Abstraction 1940–70, presented alongside women artists from around the world—marking a renewed international recognition of her contribution and reaffirming her place in postwar
