This bookstore/cafe combination specializes in local illustrations and paintings, which fill its books and hang on the cafe walls. Even before entering the shop, the beautiful fresco on the door and artful interior are warm and playful, inviting visitors to come in and explore. Many students and artists will come here to work and draw. The handmade matcha is another draw of this bookstore, so if you're looking for a gentle atmosphere, "elsewhere cafe" is the perfect place to revisit childhood nostalgia and find inner peace.

 

VVG Something

"VVG Something" was selected as one of the world's twenty most beautiful bookstores. This hidden gem is tucked away on a little alley near Taipei's trendy East district. In addition to collecting a variety of books on cooking, art, design, Japanese, gardening, photography, literature, as well as many other subjects, the store also sells beautifully designed stationary, as well as a few unique antique supplies. Though the bookstore is small, it is not to be missed!

 

VVG Chapter

VVG Chapter is in housed in a well-planned Japanese style house, meticulously renovated to house what is now a sort of library or "book museum". As long as you make a reservation ahead of time, you can enjoy a peaceful and silent two-hours of reading in this special and quiet environment. Because of the special historical background of this house, librarians first guide visitors through a tour of the Japanese architectural features of the buildings, and then provide guests with small refreshments. The collection at this museum houses mostly history and literature books. Every once in a while, the museum hosts artist exhibitions and special readings by authors.

Or Bookshop is located near the new Wahu Hakka Cultural Preservation Area. Or Bookshop is a huge bright space that welcomes groups of friends to enjoy reading time together. The store has as many as seven thousand books, and also provides light food as well as a variety of occasional performances. This store provides a needed cultural event spot for the residents in this area.

Huwei Salon was built in the 1940's with a "Xingya" architechturalstyle and design. The bookstore has an outside garden, as well as European furnishings and lighting, with an old-fashioned atmosphere. The bookstore has a large selection of books on ecology, gender, and alternative global culture, and hosts a monthly salon book exhibition. If you have the opportunity to visit Yunlin, you must stop by this bookstore.

In the bookstore you will find a small universe of books, neat rows of bookshelves and tidy wooden tables and chairs. Chengnan Used Books

Chengnan Used Books is a secluded and quiet bookstore located in Tainan city, the previous capital of Taiwan, near Wu Fei Temple and Tainan University. The buildings architecture is clean and bright, providing a scholarly addition to the ancient city. The outside vegetation presses against the door of the building as if to wrap and surround the reader, who can enjoy a peaceful time in this comfortable place.

 

Wearepaperbooks


No.28, Lane 87, Sichuan Road, Xitun District, Taichung City

 

Wearepaperbooks has two hostesses and four in-house cats; the large glass doors and windows have become a special landmark in this old community. Wearepaperbooks also houses the Community Arts and Literature Activities Center, a great responsibility: the store hosts book tours, lectures, and other cultural activities. Visitors can enjoy a full day of reading, enjoying the company of the cats and lounging around in this warm environment.
