Documenta 14 : LEARNING FROM ATHENS

— April 8, 2017 by YIART

After 5 years of preparation, Documenta 14 takes place both in Kassel and Athens, a city with intertwined crises of finance and migration, and the capital of a country whose recent relations with Germany have been anything but collaborative.

This year, focusing on the social-political themes that shape Europe today—with the specter of nationalism looming high over upcoming elections in France and Germany—documenta 14 will focus on immigration, displacement, and the catastrophe that informed its creation in the first place: World War II and the Holocaust.

Besides, Documenta14 includes nearly 160 participants, almost all of whom will also show work in Kassel, and the works sprawl across 40 sites. Different from other exhibitions held in the museums, Documenta allows views to take courage to get your hands dirty, slow down and get closer to the artworks.
