1.VERMEER Making the Difference: Vermeer and Dutch Art

The 17th century Dutch artist Vermeer, who is famous for his low output and exquisite style and light performance, has exhibited in the world in recent years. In October this year, the Ueno Royali Museum held a solo exhibition of Vermeer, exhibited 9 pieces of Vermeer works, three of them are the first to appear in Japan. This exhibition is said to be the largest Vermeer solo exhibition in the history of Japan. The pavilion also cooperated with different industries to create " Vermeer 's room" and side products. In order to attract more young people to visit the exhibition, Mori Art Museum also invited the well-known Japanese actress Ishihara Satomi to work as dubbing work for the exhibition tour. The exhibition will also be exhibited at the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts from February 16 to May 12, 2019.

2.Francis Alÿs: La dépense

The Rockbund Art Museum hosted the first large-scale solo exhibition for the Belgian-born, Mexico-based artist Francis Alÿs. Francis Alÿs has architecture training background, his works is highly recognizable and influential in the history of contemporary art. His works involve culture, history, and society, questioning about anthropological and geopolitical topics, and conducts close-up observation and practice around daily life. The exhibition is curated by Yuko Hasegawa, the chief curator of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art, exhibiting nearly 1,300 pieces of works by manuscripts, videos, drawings, oil paintings, etc. In addition to the special collection of new paintings, some of the works were also publicly displayed for the first time.

3.Minimalism: Space. Light. Object

With the theme of minimalism, this exhibition clams to be the first minimalist exhibition in Southeast Asia. From the perspective of space, light and objects, the exhibition shows the development and legacies of minimalism from the 1950s to the present. More than 60 artists from the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia such as William Morris, Mona Hatoum, Ai Weiwei and Anisch involve and showcase more than 150 historical and contemporary works, as well as site-specific works. The exhibition venue spans two art museums, which is the organizer, National Gallery Singapore and ArtScience Museum.

4. Niki de Saint Phalle: Legendary Female Artist of the 20th Century and Her Wonderland

After three years of preparations, the Today Art Museum hosted Niki de Saint Phalle’s large-scale solo exhibition “Niki de Saint Phalle: Legendary Female Artist of the 20th Century and Her Wonderland” in China. The set up of exhibition is inspired by the legendary artist Niki de Saint Phalle’s Tarot Garden built in Italy. Niki de Saint Phalle, an artist breaks the worldly taboo and is known for her ‘shooting art’. This exhibition followed the timeline of Niki de Saint Phalle’s artistic career, sorting out her important works since the 1960s. The exhibits cover her practice across painting, sculpture, performing arts, conceptual art, feminist art, and large public art and film.

5. Andy Warhol: Pop Art

Pop Art has a profound influence on the artistic development and the quality of life of the people to present day. One of the representatives of Pop Art Andy Warhol's fame is still resounding in today's society. The Andy Warhol exhibition will be staged again after ten years of violation of Taiwan. This exhibition will feature more than 100 selected works from Andy Warhol’s artistic career between 1957 to 1986. The exhibition will be divided into four exhibition areas with four themes, namely "Self Portraits and Photo", "Celebrity Portraits", "Magazine Covers and Album Covers" and "Silk Screen Printing and Others", fully present the uniqueness and charm of Andy Warhol's artistic career.

6. Joan Miró: Birth of the World

Joan Miró's work has always been innocent and infinite, but full of metaphor, humor and lively atmosphere. In the spring of 2019, MoMA in New York launched the Catalon surrealist artist exhibition, which will showcase about 60 paintings, paper works, prints, picture books and other works created by Miró between 1920 and 1950. These works are closely related to his famous work "Birth of the World", which show a series of hieroglyphics, astrological symbols and poetics appearing in the astronomical astrological symbols that often appear in his works.

7. Keith Haring Solo Exhibition

In June 2019, the Tate Liverpool will be presenting the first large-scale solo exhibition of American new pop artist Keith Haring in the UK. As one of the leader in the anti-mainstream art and social movements of the 1980s, Keith Haring often collaborated with like-minded artists such as Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat to create a variety of social awareness and phenomena in American society at the time. The exhibition will feature more than 85 works, including large-scale works, paintings, drawings and sculptures.

8. 58th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale 2019

Ralph Rugoff, an independent curator and current director of London’s Hayward Museum, is appointed as artistic director of the 58th Venice Biennale, announcing the title of 58th Venice Biennale " May You Live in Interesting Times”. This proposition is intended to show the world the "interesting times" of our lives today after the arduous and turbulent times of the past. Ralph Rugoff used to be the curator of the Lyon Biennale 2015. The Artist Shu Lea Cheang is selected to represent Taiwan at Venice Biennale 2019. The Spanish philosopher, author and curator, Paul B‭. ‬Preciado, is appointed as the curator of the single-artist exhibition of Taiwan Pavilion. The exhibition is named "3x3x6". Shu Lea Cheang is good at creating a situation in which history and current, virtual and worldly integrations are created by multiple media and digital media creation techniques. This exhibition will present the artistic creation of Shu Lea Cheang for more than 30 years.‬‬‬

9.Whitney Biennial 2019

The Whitney Biennale has been in existence for 86 years since its inception in 1932 and has spared no effort in tracking the latest developments in American contemporary art. The 2019 Whitney Biennale will be curated by Jane Panetta, associate curator of the Whitney Museum of Art, and assistant curator Rujeko Hockley. Tiffany & ‬Co is the main sponsor of Whitney Biennial 2019. Jane Panetta and Rujeko Hockley have extensive experience in the exhibition, and they have participated in the curatorial work of important exhibitions in major art museums in the United States for many years. They joined the Whitney Museum of Art in 2010 and 2017 and continued to promote important exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of Art.

10.Shiota Chiharu:The Soul Trembles

Mori Art Museum will be presenting the largest solo exhibition of Shiota Chiharu, one of the representative artist of Japanese contemporary art, in June this year. The exhibition was curated by Mami Kataoka, the chief curator of the Mori Art Museum. Shiota Chiharu is impressed by her famous large-scale entangled yarn installation. This exhibition will gather the essence of the creation of Shiota Chiharu's for the past 20 years. With the subtitle of the exhibition “The Soul Trembles”, the work will bring the audience a feeling of soul turbulence.

11.Francis Bacon

|France, Paris|Center Pompidou| 2019. 09. 11 ~ 2020. 01 . 20Francis Bacon, one of the works of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, his early works show a strong sense of painting with a twisted, awkward, violent image of darkness and morbidity. In the late stage of the painting career, the performance of a single body shrouded in strong light, injecting more horror and tension into the picture. In September this year, the Centre Pompidou in France will launch a solo exhibition by France Bacon, exhibiting his late works such as triptych and other important works, as well as books.

12. Nam June Paik: The Future is Now

Known as the "father of video art" and one of the active members of the Fluxus, Nam June Paik foreseen the importance of the visual arts of mass media and new technology in the 1950s and 1960s. He has been working for decades to create experimental, forward-looking and entertaining works. The large retrospective will be launched by the Tate Modern and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. In addition to showing the sound and landscape installation of the classic works of Nam June Paik, the exhibition also exhibited his collaborations and exchanges works with avant-garde artists, musicians and choreographers.
